A myth is neither a lie nor the truth. A myth is a belief. We, humans, have a tendency to believe in stories.
How are we the only surviving human species? It was said we were different because we had a verbal language, but we are not the only one, other human species and animals (chimpanzee and monkeys) could communicate too. What helped us to reach the top of the food chain is the ability to communicate the things which do not exist i.e., fiction. Homo sapiens wiped off other stronger human species because they could form larger groups based on these myths.
Since thousands of years ago, we have been leading our lives based on myths. Myths helped to communicate and find a mate in earlier times.
When we think about it, we realise everything we have today is built on a myth. Nothing is true, nothing is a lie, it is just an inflexion. Religions, Nations, Justice, Human rights, Government everything is a myth. Emotions, Believes, Rituals, Cultures is a myth. It cannot be right or wrong, it can only be a myth.
The gullibility of the human brain makes the myth look real. A myth can drive thousands of people to move in the desired direction. Great human civilisations are based on myths, the true power is that these myths can be changed, can be redirected.
When far greater things are based on this belief, don’t you think we only have to believe we are happy? Happiness is a myth we should believe in.
A myth is a never-ending story. Think about it. It is funny though that thinking about a myth is also a myth.
I don’t want to conclude this article; I want you all to keep thinking about these greater questions. In this world full of myths, what is real?
